Unfortunately, only about one quarter of children ages 5 - 14 wear bike helmets when riding.  Almost 0% of teen bike riders wear a helmet.  If every bicyclist wore a helmet, that alone would prevent approximately 150 deaths and about 100,000 non-fatal head injuries per year.  Bike helmets reduce the risk of serious head injuries by approximately 85% and the risk of injury to the upper and mid-face by approximately 65%
