· All adult women who have a cervix should have a Pap Smear at least every 3 years until age 65 to screen for cervical cancer. Your provider will tell you if you should have more frequent Pap smears. If you’re older than 65, talk to your provider about how often you should have a Pap smear.
· Women age 40 and older should talk to their provider about whether to have a mammogram every 1 to 2 years to screen for breast cancer.
· Women age 45 and older should have their cholesterol levels checked periodically. You may need to have your cholesterol checked more often if you have a high cholesterol level or other risk factors for heart disease.
· If you are planning to become pregnant, ask your provider about taking folic acid.
· Women who are getting close to menopause should talk to their provider about the risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy and their risk for osteoporosis.
· Your provider may give you advice about exercise and nutrition for women. For example, he or she can tell you how much calcium you need to prevent bone problems.
