At 9 months old your baby:

·          Understands gestures and responds to “bye-bye”.

 

·          May be able to say two syllable words like ”ma-ma” or “da-da”.

 

·          Responds to simple commands.

 

·          Starts to creep and attempts to stand up.

 

·          Wants to be increasingly independent, especially with feedings.

 

·          Grasps with thumb opposition.

 

·          Easily frustrated.

 

The kitchen will most likely be a favorite play area for your baby.  In the kitchen, a drawer or cabinet of his/her own filled with measuring cups, spoons, various size and color mixing bowls, spatulas, and plastic coasters.  A handy way to keep your baby occupied and in sight.

At 12 months old your baby: 

·          Is using some words.

 

·          May be walking but  is still prone to fall.

 

·          Is aware of anger, jealousy, and fear in others and may react to these emotions.

 

·          Enjoys simple tricks and games.

Immunizations need to be updated.  Please make sure there are at least two months between this set of immunizations and the previous set.  Enjoys hide and seek, copy-cat and string games.  Tie a toy with a string and allow him/her to tug at the string to retrieve his/her toy.

 

At 15 months old your baby: 

·          Walks alone.

 

·          Vocalizes his/her wants and uses words he/she hears most often.

 

·          Responds to familiar comments.

 

·          Turns pages of a book or magazine.

 

·          Creeps upstairs.

 

·          Enjoys imitating.

 

Children love to climb - prevent falls by supervising all climbing excursionsKeep an eye on your child while in the shopping cart or stroller.  Keep doors leading to the stairs locked.  Be a good model - your child learns from you.

·          Is increasingly interested in the big world around him/her.

 

·          Will be exploring and climbing.

 

·          Can throw a ball.
